Mayor of Istanbul
Mr. Uysal was born in Alanya, a district of Antalya, in 1966. Completing his primary and secondary education in his hometown, he studied Law in Istanbul University and graduated in 1988. Starting with the years at university, he has always been interested in national matters, social problems and involved in political and social projects since then. After he graduated he became a freelance lawyer and dealt with politics at the same time. After AK Party was established, he became the founding chairman of Küçükçekmece District Branch.
After Başakşehir and Bahçeşehir neighborhoods merged and became a district in 2009, he declared his candidacy for district mayorship and won the election by taking 39.027 votes out of 103.111. In 2014 he was the candidate of AK Party for Başakşehir mayorship for the second time and he won the election again by taking 92.559 votes out of 190.906.
Mr. Uysal became the Mayor of Istanbul in September 2017 after a special voting session at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Assembly.
He is married with four children.
